Sonia Lo

Chief Executive Officer

 Career Highlights:

  • Founder and Managing Partner of Chalsys LLP, an advisory and direct investment company focusing on business building, restructuring and asset management
  • Angel investor in 15 companies with 4 exits
  • Served on three UK PLC boards and eight private company boards as non-executive director
  • Co-Founded eZoka in 2000 and sold in 2002, recognized as top Global 100 Technology Pioneers in Davos
  • Speaks 7 languages and has lived and worked in 16 countries
  • Holds a third-degree blackbelt in Tae-Kwon Do
  • Was a professional private chef in London for two years

When not growing lettuce? 

Cooking for and feeding her friends and family who act as willing guinea pigs for her recipes.

Dr. Deane Falcone

SVP Plant Science

Education: UT Austin BA, MA, Ohio State PhD, Stanford Postdoctoral

 Career Highlights:

  • Previously Chief Molecular Science Officer and Founder, Naprogenix, Inc, a biotechnology company.  Developed platform to access the chemical diversity of plants
  • Served as Faculty and Principal Investigator at the University of MA with a research focus on plant stress and metabolism
  • Conducted plant cell research as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Plant Breeding Research, Max Planck Institute, Cologne, Germany
  • Developed a growth-performance based screen to identify genes to improve plant growth and stress resistance
  • Identified and isolated plant genes that confer stress tolerance and yield increases in plants
  • Conducted research in several areas of plant metabolism: photosynthesis, carbon dioxide fixation, plant fatty acids/oils, plant biochemical diversity, including health-promoting plant compounds
  • Published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles in the above areas and is an inventor on 4 issued patents

When not growing lettuce? 

Convincing others that plants can serve as the basis of solutions to a wide range of major global problems.

Steve Montoya

SVP Engineering & Facilities

Education: UC Davis BSEE, UC Berkeley MSEE, Pepperdine MBA

 Career Highlights:

  • Over 30 years of experience in technology development 
  • Directed launching 3 start-up companies, including StrataCom acquired for over $4B by Cisco Systems
  • At Cisco he led as Director of Engineering for Internet Appliance & Applications Business Unit
  • Steve then co-founded Nayna Networks Corporation as Vice-President of Engineering/Operations, built and managed the hardware, software, systems engineering and operations. He raised $55M in Series A/B rounds
  • He was most recently VP of product management, R&D and operations building energy efficient lighting at HID Laboratories and Topanga Technologies

When not growing lettuce? 

Rooting for his son’s CA-based Ice-Hockey team (go figure!?)

Dave Vosburg

CFO & VP Strategy

Education: Notre Dame BA, Yale MBA

 Career Highlights:

  • Launched the first fully electronic version of any curriculum as CCO of ED-Tech start-up, with over 5,000 flash-animated lessons in seven languages
  • Co-Founded an HR-outsourcing firm and a serviced offices company in Lusaka, Zambia; drove company to profitability in two years (currently in sale discussions)
  • Acted as CFO for Zoona, Zambia and Malawi’s largest money transfer company taking it through its first audit with a big-four and managing financial projections for $4m equity injection
  • Voted as President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Zambia where he worked with Government leaders to increase US – Zambia trade

When not growing lettuce? 

Taking orders from his two-year-old daughter.

Clara Mamone

Director Plant Science

Education: University of Buenos Aires (UBA), BS Agricultural Engineering
Thesis work: Research of Fungi on Rice Seeds Produced in Corrientes, Argentina

 Career Highlights:

  • Growing Department Manager at Giorgi Mushroom Company, second largest mushroom producer in the United States
  • Project Manager for Yolo County Resource Conservation District in CA, managed natural resources conservation projects in agricultural land
  • Specialist in water quality and management
  • Developed a Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for the Yolo-Solano Ag Water Quality Management Support Program as a requirement for $977,000 funding from the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board to the Yolo RCD
  • As Irrigation Manager for Arroz Guaviravi S.A. Corrientes, Argentina, administered the water supply for 5,000 hectares of rice fields from Guaviravi Dam
  • Physical Sciences Technician for the ARS-USDA Microscopy and Imaging Lab
  • Technical marketing coordinator at Magan Argentina a subsidiary of Makhteshim Agan Industries in Israel, one of the largest crop protection companies in the world
  • Financial and technical Manager for Organic Argentina S.A. Farm

When not growing lettuce? 

Hiking, spending good time with my nieces and nephews and judging my husband’s culinary experiments.

Michael Malmberg

General Manager

  • As part of Amazon Pathways Operations Management Program, helped launch highest volume fulfillment center in the Amazon network
  • Supply chain consultant to produce industry in CA
  • COO of successful agricultural venture in Kenya
  • Coordinated operations for medium-scale land management company on projects including invasive plant removal, native plant installation, erosion control, landscape construction and ecological monitoring
