COVID-19 Update | FreshBox Farms’ Dedication to Food Safety
March 19, 2020
To Our Customers,
The rapid global spread of COVID-19 poses a challenging and uncertain time for everyone. We are closely monitoring the situation with COVID-19 and remain committed to keeping our customers, employees, community and partners safe.
On behalf of the Crop One and FreshBox Farms team, we wanted to personally reach out and reiterate our dedication to food safety.
The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) affirms that “there is no evidence to suggest that food produced in the United States can transmit COVID-19.” While we have limited our farm team to only essential personnel, our production crew, which has always followed strict food-safety hygiene practices, is continuing to work and provide fresh, safe and clean produce to markets in the Greater Boston area.
One of the fundamental goals of Crop One’s vertical farm design is to avoid contamination. Crop One’s modular indoor growth units (called Mods) are 100% sealed and controlled. Before anyone enters the Mods, they must sanitize their footwear with sanitizing spray, don a lab coat, new gloves and a new hairnet within a separate vestibule, preventing the introduction of airborne microbes and insects. These thorough processes ensure the highest safety standards possible, free of any pesticides, chemicals or contagion.
We remain committed to food safety and vigilant about strict hygiene for all farm workers. We will continue to monitor the situation with COVID-19 and take precautions as suggested by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health agencies.
We thank you for your continued support and we will provide updates as they become available.
